alWFA 2.0 (Arabic letter & word frequency analyzer)
Welcome to the home page of ALWFA 2.0 (previously known as ALFAS). ALWFA allows you to paste any Arabic text in a text area to compute its frequency distribution. ALWFA is still young, but can already do a lot for you. Its objective is to enable students of Arabic, Quran, Hadeeth or any Arabic literature to perform several operations of statistical analysis on input text. As one dear brother nicely put it to me: "In addition to all guidance and miracles present in the Quran, there must be a lot of numerical treasures that can be unraveled if there is a tool to help us to". ALWFA is built with that spirit in mind, and to address just those desires for the interested. To that dear friend, all future editions of ALWFA are free of charge. To you, dear reader, send me an email, take it, try it and if you like it, pay a small two-figure amount as donation to continuing such work of making intelligent Arabic English software إن شاء الله.
This edition contains all features present in the free Internet Edition plus the following features:
- A softer pleasing interface with blue+gray jelly looking GUI items (buttons, draggers, ...)
- Tooltips appearing when pointing with the mouse on GUI items
- Runs as and application (as opposed to an applet); this means that you can can run it as a stand alone application without needing an Internet connection
- Calculates word frequency in addition to letter frequency
- Table headers can be pressed for extra control on sorting and nested sorting (ascending or descending, and based on word/letter, or frequency, all by just a click on the desired column header)
- Table column positions can be inter-swapped for extra reading convenience
- Functional mouse right click to pop up the edit menu (cut, copy and paste)
I appreciate any feed back regarding making ALWFA 2.0 more robust and more functional. The figure below gives a snapshot of ALWFA 2.0 at work with Sura 3 in the Quran. Check out the ALWFA 3.0 page to see what's in store for the upcoming release.
